Collins Hackle
CollinsWe are proud to be one of two retail dealers of Collins Hackle east of the Mississippi. Those of you who have attended Fly Fishing Shows anywhere in the Northeast have met Charlie Collins, who has spent the last 20+ years quietly raising and developing a line of genetically bred tying birds that rival the best of the hackle names that are on the market today. Charlie’s colors are vibrant and the feathers have a short stiff barb with a minimum of web. Collins hackle is known for the slim, subtle quills that each feather possesses making tying a pleasure. Charlie Collins has been a tyer his whole life, tied commercially for many years, and developed hackle that does not twist or break when wound on the hook. Collins Hackle is guaranteed not to, or return it in it’s original condition for a full refund or replacement.
All capes are sold with a saddle patch at no extra charge. In general, grade 1 and grade 2 necks will have a high proportion of feathers in the 18-24 range.
You will note that Collins carries a wide range of barred colors. Don’t be afraid of them!!! These capes give that “buggy” look that a solid color can’t replicate. Use them like you would use grizzly hackle-alone or mixed with another shade to give a different effect.
For those of you who come into the shop you know that we use only Collins Hackle on all our dry flies. When you look on our tying desk you will often note the various barred colors lying there that we use to make our flies more realistic on the water. For those of you who order online, tell us what flies you want to tie and we will hand select the neck that best suits your objectives.
